The Alabama Power Foundation will accept applications through Oct. 16 for its annual grant program, Students to Stewards.
The program, part of Alabama Power’s Brighter Minds education initiative, will invest nearly $60,000 this year in conservation and stewardship education.

Grants will be awarded in two categories:

• Curriculum: 14 awards up to $1,000 each for classroom lessons, in-the-field learning and teacher training.
• Outdoor classrooms: six awards up to $7,500 each for the construction of outdoor instruction areas.

“Students to Stewards gives students a place to learn about the outdoors and equips them with knowledge so they can be good stewards of the environment,” said Matt Bowden, Alabama Power vice president of Environmental Affairs.

The main goal of Students to Stewards is to provide support for dynamic stewardship initiatives, conservation education and outdoor classrooms to teach students about the importance of preserving Alabama’s natural resources.

The foundation also provided the seed grant and continues to support the Alabama Wildlife Federation’s Alabama Outdoor Classroom Program, which complements Students to Stewards.
