Clearing skies are returning after rocky weather passed through Alabama overnight. That system brought heavy rains, lightning and damaging winds.

Pickens County in west Alabama was one of the hardest hit areas as a tornado touched down in Aliceville, but as the system moved through central and east Alabama, its intensity lessened.

Alabama Power crews responded to the storm and were repairing outages as soon as it was safe to do so.

At the height of the storms overnight, 45,000 Alabama Power customers were affected statewide. Power has since been restored to 40,000 customers. Fewer than 5,000 are still affected.

The remaining outages affect:

  • Western Division:            1,300
  • Birmingham Division:      1,400
  • Eastern Division:              400
  • Mobile Division:                295
  • Southern Division:            138
