James Spann: Sun, heat and storms in Alabama

GOOD OLE SUMMERTIME: It is that time of the year when weather forecasting is actually pretty easy. Say “hot, humid, and a chance of scattered afternoon storms” and you will be correct every day. Storms this afternoon on radar are widely scattered, but producing heavy amounts of rain where they have formed…
We also note SPC has introduced a “marginal risk” of severe storms for much of the state through the evening hours as some storms will have potential for a wet microburst, local areas of strong straight line winds that could bring down a few trees or power lines.
Away from the storms, temperatures are mostly in the mid 90s.
TOMORROW/FRIDAY: Looks like highs will be in the 95-98 degree range for most places as the core of the heat bubble stays a little west of Alabama. Partly sunny days, the risk of a few scattered showers and storms during the afternoon and evening hours. Chance of any one spot getting wet is about one in four.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Persistence is the best idea this time of the year. The weather stays “hot, humid, and a chance of scattered afternoon storms” both days with highs generally in the mid 90s.
And, pretty much the same story next week. Highs 90-90, a few scattered thunderstorms each day during the peak of the daytime hearing process. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
TROPICS: Dry air continues to cover most of the Atlantic basin, and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.
AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny days, fair nights, and an occasional passing storm on the coast from Panama City Beach to Gulf Shores through the weekend. Highs on the immediate coast 87-90, with mid 90s inland. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
