James Spann: Pleasant fall weather, but still dry in Alabama

COMFORTABLE WEATHER: The average high for Birmingham for October 12 is 76 degrees… Birmingham is five degrees above that at 3:00 with 81 degrees. The sky is sunny, and our long dry spell continues. Today is the 24th consecutive day with no measurable rain for Birmingham.
Tomorrow will be another sunny day with a warmer afternoon; we rise into the mid 80s with a sunny sky.
FRIDAY/SATURDAY: A weak surface front will be near the northwest corner of the state; we could very well see a few widely scattered showers over the Tennessee Valley of far North Alabama, but most of the state will simply stay rain-free as drought conditions continue to worsen. The high tomorrow will be in the mid 80s, and close to 80 Saturday afternoon.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Clear for the high school games Friday night with temperatures falling from the mid 70s at kickoff into the upper 60s by the fourth quarter.
Alabama will play at Tennessee in Knoxville Saturday afternoon (2:30p CT kickoff)… expect a cloudy periods with showers possible. About 75 degrees at kickoff, falling to near 70 by the final whistle.
Auburn has the week off.
SUNDAY/EARLY NEXT WEEK: No real change. Sunny warm days, fair pleasant nights. Highs in the low to mid 80s, lows in the 60s.
The GFS continues to show a cold front moving through Wednesday of next week (October 19) with a chance of showers, but rain amounts will probably be light and spotty with limited moisture and little upper support. But, maybe a few spots will see enough rain to settle the dust. Cooler air will follow for the end of next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
AT THE BEACH: Sunny days, fair nights on the coast from Gulf Shores to Panama City Beach with highs in the 80s through early next week. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
TROPICS: Hurricane Nicole is packing sustained winds of 100 mph, and will be very close to Bermuda tomorrow morning. Then, it heads out to sea, and is no threat to the U.S.
