James Spann: Cold front enters Alabama Wednesday night

BLUE SKY AND SUNSHINE: With a cloudless sky, temperatures are in the 70s across Alabama this afternoon; tonight will be clear and not as cold as recent nights with a low in the 50s.

MIDWEEK FRONT: The day tomorrow will be warm and dry; with a partly sunny sky the high will be close to 80 degrees. A cold front will pass through tomorrow night; moisture will be very limited and any showers should be small and isolated. Most places will remain dry.

Thursday and Friday will be cool and dry with ample sunshine. The high Thursday will be in the mid 60s; Friday’s high should be close to 70. Friday morning will be pretty chilly, with a low between 37 and 41 for most places; colder pockets will once again have a risk of late-season frost.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday looks good with a mostly sunny sky; afternoon temperatures will rise into the 70s. Rain will move into the state Sunday ahead of the next wave of low pressure to the west. While some rain is possible Sunday morning, widespread rain is likely Sunday afternoon into Monday. The surface low will pass well to the south, meaning no risk of severe storms and probably very little thunder. Temperatures won’t get out of the 60s Sunday with clouds and rain.

NEXT WEEK: An upper trough will linger, meaning rain at times Monday, Monday night and maybe even into part of the day Tuesday. Then the weather looks dry Wednesday through Friday with highs in the 70s.
