James Spann: Improving weather for Alabama today

James Spann has an improving midweek forecast for Alabama from Alabama NewsCenter on Vimeo.

RADAR CHECK: Rain continues early this morning across parts of east and southeast Alabama; that rain will be over by midmorning. The sky should begin to clear this afternoon as drier air works into the state; temperatures will hold in the 60s all day. Tonight will be mostly fair and very cool, with a low around 40 degrees.

THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Alabama gets a good chance to dry out. Look for a partly sunny sky Thursday and Friday with highs in the mid 60s. The weekend will feature sunny, pleasant days and clear, chilly nights. The high Saturday and Sunday will be between 62 and 66 degrees, and we project a low in the 30s early Sunday morning for most places across north and central Alabama. Scattered frost is likely, and colder pockets could see a late-season freeze; growers, beware.

NEXT WEEK: We rise into the 70s Monday with a good supply of sunshine. Dry weather will likely continue Tuesday and Wednesday with highs around 80 degrees, followed by a round of rain and thunderstorms Thursday. There are some signals from global models that this system could bring another chance of strong to severe storms, but it is way too early to be specific.

RAIN TUESDAY: Here are some rain totals from the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team:
