CHILLY START: Temperatures are in the 30s across North/Central Alabama this morning; a few of the colder spots are at freezing.

DRY WEATHER THROUGH SUNDAY: This cool, dry continental airmass will stay in place through the weekend. We are forecasting sunny days, clear nights… the high today will be in the 50-55 degree range, followed by upper 50s tomorrow, and highs close to 60 over the weekend. The coldest morning will come early tomorrow, when most communities will drop into the 30-35 degree range; colder valleys will see 20s.

NEXT WEEK: A short wave will bring the chance of rain to the state Monday afternoon and Monday night, but moisture is pretty limited, and rain amounts should be fairly light (under 1/2 inch). The rest of the week will be dry with seasonal temperatures.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Perfect weather for the “Super 7” Alabama high school championship games this week at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. We expect sunny days and clear nights through Friday; daytime temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 50s; the night games will feature temperatures in the 40s.

Saturday’s SEC Championship game (Alabama vs Florida) will be played in the Georgia Dome, but for fans headed to the game, the weather outside will be just fine with a good supply of sunshine and an afternoon high around 60 in Atlanta.

RAIN UPDATE: Birmingham’s rain total for the year is up to 52.74?, 3.14? above average. Other totals for the year include 47.02? at Tuscaloosa, and 52.09? at Anniston.
