Call it “pole-back Thursday” with this photo!
This historic picture from the Alabama Power archives marked the installation of the company’s 72,000th utility pole.
That sounds like a lot until you consider that today Alabama Power has 1.5 million transmission and distribution poles. Combine that with nearly 11,000 towers and 83,702 miles of power lines and it gives you an idea of why we appreciate linemen and believe you should to.
Starting with National Lineman Appreciation Day on April 18 through Alabama Lineman Appreciation Day on June 6, Alabama NewsCenter is honoring those men and women in the state, including some “Throwback Thursday” nods to the past.
