FEELING LIKE SUMMER: Temperatures are in the 85- to 90-degree range over most of Alabama this afternoon, with a good supply of sunshine through scattered fair-weather cumulus clouds. No showers are on radar over Alabama as I write this at mid-afternoon, although we note one lone storm has formed near Columbus, Mississippi.

Tonight will be mostly fair with a low in the 60s.

THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: The summer preview continues, with mostly sunny days and fair nights. We could see a few isolated showers or storms Thursday afternoon over the northern third of the state, but most places will stay dry. Highs tomorrow and Friday will be between 86 and 90; then we project highs in the 89- to 92-degree range Saturday and Sunday. It will be our hottest weekend so far this year.

NEXT WEEK: Monday will be dry with a high around 90, but we will bring in a chance of showers Tuesday and Wednesday as a broad subtropical low over the northeast Gulf of Mexico drifts in our direction. I’m not too sure the rain will be all that widespread, but it will be our best chance of rain in a while. For Birmingham, today is the 13th day in a row without measurable rain, based on data from Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport.

THURSDAY IN MONTGOMERY: Ever been fascinated by hurricanes or wondered how in the world people fly safely into them? Have a passion for flying and love viewing various aircraft? As part of a weeklong tour along the Gulf Coast, the NOAA Hurricane Hunters will be making a stop at the Montgomery Regional Airport (Dannelly Field) on Thursday. Come tour two of the Hurricane Hunter aircraft, speak with the pilots and walk through vendor exhibits from local agencies and organizations. The event is free to the public; tours will be held from 2 until 5 p.m.
