Exceeding customer expectations is the best part of the day for Alabama Power Customer Operations Manager Theia Colvin.

“What I enjoy most about my job is the positive impact I have on people,” said Colvin. “It’s rewarding to be able to offer payment options and connect customers with one of our local agencies, like Community Service Programs of West Alabama.”

Colvin started working with Alabama Power in January 2009 as a customer service representative after playing Division I college basketball at Rider University in New Jersey. She is from West Blocton and played at West Blocton High School.

“I attribute many of Theia’s characteristics to lessons she learned participating in sports and having the opportunity to play college basketball,” said Division Customer Service Manager Scott Cotney. “Her interactions with her team, our customers and the outreach she provides to our communities makes her an unsung hero.”

As co-chairperson for the 2021 United Way campaign in Alabama Power’s Western Division, Colvin has demonstrated her passion for providing extraordinary customer and community service with co-workers to create a stronger community. She worked closely with the United Way staff to coordinate speakers, tours, events and educational meetings. Her leadership, project management skills and networking skills helped make the campaign a success. Following her outstanding performance, Colvin is now chairperson for the 2022 campaign.

Over the years, Colvin has volunteered with the iCan Girls in Engineering program, encouraging middle school girls to pursue careers in the field of engineering by sparking their interest in math and science. Tuscaloosa County students participated in a series of hands-on activities while learning about problem-solving skills and networking with company employees.

“Theia has a passion for winning and understands that her success is dependent on the strengths of her team,” said Cotney. “We’re very proud to work with and be on the same team with her.”

In her role, Colvin manages customer service representatives in Tuscaloosa and Northport – two of the busiest and most challenging offices – serving 115,701 customers.

Colvin is responsible for hiring, training and overseeing customer service representatives. Her team processes payments, issues service orders and handles customer concerns, among other customer needs. She works closely with Marketing, Appliance Sales, Power Delivery and the local community service agencies.

“At the end of the day, we are trying to give our customers an experience that will leave a lasting impression,” said Colvin. “It’s not about what you say to customers but it’s how you say it.”
