James Spann: Few, if any, showers for Alabama through the weekend

James Spann says dry pattern continues for Alabama into next week from Alabama NewsCenter on Vimeo.
GETTING DRY AROUND HERE: Today will be the 14th consecutive day with no measurable rain for Birmingham, based on data at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport. The total since Jan. 1 is 21.87 inches, and our surplus for the year is down to 1.42. Anniston now has a deficiency of 1.47 inches for 2018.
So, while we do need rain, don’t expect anything really significant today. We will mention the chance of isolated showers or storms this afternoon, but the chance of any one spot getting wet will be 10 percent or less. Otherwise, today will be partly to mostly sunny with a high between 87 and 90 degrees.
TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: We should mention the last time Birmingham hit 90 degrees was on Sept. 28, 2017 — 224 days ago. There’s a good chance we reach 90 degrees either Friday or over the weekend as dry, hot weather continues. Expect sunny days and fair nights, with highs around 90 tomorrow, followed by low 90s over the weekend. It will be the hottest weekend so far this year.
NEXT WEEK: Monday will stay dry with a high around 90, but the chance of showers will increase Tuesday and on through midweek as a trough lifts northward from the Gulf of Mexico. Highs drop into the low 80s then because of clouds and showers.
TODAY IN MONTGOMERY: Ever been fascinated by hurricanes or wondered how in the world people fly safely into them? Have a passion for flying and love viewing various aircraft? As part of a weeklong tour along the Gulf Coast, the NOAA Hurricane Hunters will be making a stop at the Montgomery Regional Airport (Dannelly Field) today. Come tour two of the Hurricane Hunter aircraft, speak with the pilots and walk through vendor exhibits from local agencies and organizations. The event is free to the public; tours will be held from 2 until 5 p.m.
