Birmingham SlossFest profile: White Denim

White Denim is back with a new album and two new members, and the band isn't missing a beat heading into its appearance at SlossFest. (Downtown Records)
Performer: White Denim
Type of music: Pop/Rock
About: James Petrali (vocals/guitar), Steve Terebecki (bass), Jonathan Horne (drums) and Jeffrey Olson (guitar) make up the Austin, Texas group White Denim. Influenced by punk and garage-band rock, White Denim has built a substantial fan base in its 10-year span, one that extends to the U.K.
Petrali and Terebecki had to re-evaluate when former members Joshua Block (drums) and Austin Jenkins (guitar) left the band to do other things in production. “The big thing for Steve and I was trying to define what made us want to keep going,” Petrali explains on the band’s website as he discusses its latest album, “Stiff,” with new members Horne and Olson.
The band seems not to have missed a beat. White Denim appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in April promoting and performing songs from its newest album, which peaked at No. 4 on the Top Heatseekers chart.
