James Spann: Quiet December weather pattern in Alabama

Big ol weather map.
James Spann Alabama NewsCenter Weather Forecast December 4 from Alabama NewsCenter on Vimeo.
COLD START: Temperatures are generally in the low 30s across North/Central Alabama this morning…
Colder pockets are in the mid to upper 20s; the sky is clear, and the wind is light. Look for another day of blue sky and sunshine; the high this afternoon will be between 55 and 59 degrees.
OUR WEEKEND: Not much change; sunny cool days, clear cold nights. Lows will be in the 30s, and the high tomorrow and Sunday afternoon will be close to 60 degrees.
NEXT WEEK: Global models are trending drier with the wave Monday, and it looks like we can pretty much remove the risk of showers since the air will be so dry. And, the weather looks rain-free Tuesday through Thursday with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. A surface front could bring a shower or two at the end of the week on Friday, but it doesn’t look like a big event.
The GFS model continues to suggest the next decent rain event will come on Sunday December 13… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details. No sign of any cross-polar flow, or extremely cold air around here through mid-month.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Perfect weather for the “Super 7” Alabama high school championship games today and tonight at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The sky will stay clear; daytime temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 50s this afternoon; the game tonight will feature temperatures in the 40s.
Tomorrow’s SEC Championship game (Alabama vs Florida) will be played in the Georgia Dome, but for fans headed to the game, the weather outside will be just fine with a good supply of sunshine and an afternoon high around 60 in Atlanta.
