Performer: Ryan Adams and The Shining

Type of music: Rock/Alternative Country

About: Born in Jacksonville, N.C., Ryan Adams grew to popularity as the frontman and songwriter for Whiskeytown, one of the leading bands in the alternative country movement of the 1990s. He went solo in 2000 with the critically acclaimed “Heartbreaker” (recently re-released in a deluxe version) and has had a successful, mercurial solo career as well as with a second band he put together known as The Cardinals. Adams made headlines in September 2015 when he released a cover album with his version of the songs from Taylor Swift’s chart-topping “1989” album. His latest band is The Shining and will perform with Adams at SlossFest.

Adams’ live shows have also evolved. During his early solo days, Adams was known for his quick temper and volatility. More recently, his live shows have been known for great performances as Adams and his band pull from his extensive catalog.
