Huntsville 2Q home sales up 12 percent over 2015

The Huntsville housing market enjoyed another quarter of growth during the second quarter of 2016.

According to data from the Huntsville Area Association of Realtors, 1,779 homes were sold in the area during the second quarter, a 12 percent increase from the second quarter of 2015.

This number is also 31 percent higher than the five-year average for 2011-15.

Pricing also held steady in the Huntsville metro with a median quarterly sales price of $177,975, up 3 percent over 2015 ($172,834) and up 5 percent over the five-year average of $170,177.

Supply continued to decline during the second quarter, with 2,779 homes listed for sale during the three-month period, compared to 3,080 listed during the second quarter of 2015 and 3,104 as the five-year average for supply.

There were 4.7 months of housing supply on the market, making Huntsville one of Alabama’s more balanced markets during the quarter. The market is considered to be balanced at approximately 6 months of housing supply.
