“Unique” is an overused and often misused word. That is, unless you’re using it to describe Red’s Little School House Restaurant in Grady.

Named for owner Debbie Deese’s father, Red, and in an old schoolhouse, the restaurant provides good country cooking that you would pray you would find in such a setting.

Among the ever-changing menu of meats and vegetables and desserts based on what is fresh and what is in season is a dish that stands out.

The Apple Cheese Casserole is a Red’s original and special enough to earn a spot on the Alabama Tourism Department’s list of 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama.
