Scott Martin: Storms for Alabama at times this weekend

TODAY’S WEATHER: We’ll have scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms move through the state throughout the morning, with the activity potentially stalling out over the southern half of Alabama. Another wave looks to move in from the west during the afternoon that will bring rain back to the northern half of the state. Once we get to the evening, we may see a lull in the activity for a few hours. All of the southern half of Alabama is in at least a marginal risk today (level 1), while a large portion of southwestern Alabama is in a slight risk (level 2). Damaging winds and hail will be the main threats. Highs will be in the lower 70s to the lower 80s.

EASTER: Unfortunately, it looks like showers and thunderstorms will develop and move across Alabama throughout the day on Easter, with the potential of a few of those storms becoming strong to severe. The slight and marginal risk areas are almost the same as today, mainly for Sunday afternoon and evening. It won’t be an all-day washout, but have a backup plan if you have outdoor activities planned just in case a storm moves through your area. Highs will be in the upper 60s to the upper 70s.

THE WORK WEEK AHEAD: Skies will clear out throughout the day Monday as a quiet pattern settles in. Highs will be in the upper 60s to the upper 70s.

Sunny skies can be expected on Tuesday, with highs in the mid 60s to the lower 70s.

Finally, we will get a Wednesday with no storms. It will be mostly sunny, with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

On Thursday, we’ll have a front try to push into the state from the north with limited moisture. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny for central Alabama, but a few showers may be possible for the Tennessee Valley. Highs will be in the upper 70s to the lower 80s.

On Friday, the front retreats back northward and will bring in slightly warmer temperatures. Skies look mainly sunny, with highs in the upper 70s to the mid 80s.
