James Spann: Showers/storms this evening, colder tonight

RADAR CHECK: The initial band of thunderstorms weakened as it moved into North Alabama this afternoon, and we have no severe weather in progress at mid-afternoon…
Quite frankly, with a rather stable airmass in place, the odds of severe storms are pretty low for the rest of the afternoon and early tonight, although SPC maintains a “slight risk” for parts of Central Alabama…
The main issue will come from gusty winds with stronger storms that can develop over the next few hours. Showers and storms will end from northwest to southeast early tonight as colder and drier air moves into the state.
TOMORROW: Sunshine returns in full force, but temperatures will be about 15 degrees cooler with a high in the mid 50s.
THURSDAY: Another disturbance will bring clouds back into the state, and we will mention a chance of showers Thursday afternoon and evening. Moisture will be limited, and rain amounts should be pretty light; most places get 1/4″ or less.
FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Sunny days, fair nights, and a warming trend. We reach the upper 50s Friday, mid 60s Saturday, and upper 60s Sunday.
NEXT WEEK: Dry, mild weather continues Monday and Tuesday with low 70s likely; then we will have unsettled weather Wednesday and Thursday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms… a little too early to determine if we will deal with a severe weather risk. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
AT THE BEACH: A few showers are possible tonight, and then again Thursday evening, otherwise dry weather for the coast from Panama City Beach west to Gulf Shores through the weekend. Highs mostly in the 60s, lows mostly in the 50s. The sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab this afternoon is a cool 64 degrees. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
