Alabama’s foreclosure inventory dropped 0.2 percent from September 2014-15.

The Yellowhammer State’s inventory dropped by 0.2 percent compared to a year ago, according to CoreLogic’s September report.

Alabama’s inventory now stands at 0.7 percent. There were 8,781 completed foreclosures between September 2014 and September 2015. Of that 0.7 percent, 4 percent is listed in the “serious delinquency” category.

Overall, the U.S. has seen a significant drop in the number of foreclosures during the last 12 months, with 470,000 homes being in a state of foreclosure, compared to 621,000 in 2014. That was a decrease of 24.3 percent, CoreLogic said in its report. It also represented the 47th month in a row where there was a decline in foreclosures.

“The rate of delinquencies continues to drop back closer to historic norms powered by improved economic conditions and tighter post-recession underwriting standards,” said Anand Nallathambi, president and CEO of Corelogic. “As we head into 2016, based on almost every major metric, the fundamentals underpinning the housing market are healthier than any time since 2007.”

Among all U.S. homes that have a mortgage, 1.2 percent are in some state of foreclosure, the report said. That number is down from 1.6 percent in September 2014.

New Jersey (4.6 percent), New York (3.7 percent), Florida (2.6 percent), Hawaii (2.5 percent) and Washington, D.C. (2.4 percent) represent the states with the highest number of foreclosures.

Alaska (0.3 percent), Minnesota (0.4 percent), Nebraska (0.4 percent), Arizona (0.4 percent) and North Dakota (0.4 percent) have the lowest percentages of homes in foreclosure.
