Power of Leadership spotlights exemplary work of African-American pioneers

Veteran and trailblazing Montgomery journalist Norman Lumpkin

Throughout Black History Month, Alabama Power will recognize African-American leaders who’ve gone above and beyond to create, innovate and serve their communities.

The Power of Leadership will spotlight several visionary leaders.

In this first edition, Norman Lumpkin is described as a trailblazer. The veteran Montgomery journalist died at the age of 75 in 2014.

In 1969, a time when racial tensions were high, Lumpkin became the first black TV reporter working in Alabama’s state capitol. Lumpkin set the bar and paved the way for many generations of broadcasters.

Producer Joseph Allen and Keisa Sharpe spotlight his accomplishments.
