James Spann: Dry, cooler weekend in store for Alabama

James Spann: Get set for a cooler, dry weekend in Alabama from Alabama NewsCenter on Vimeo.
DEWPOINTS DROPPING: Drier air works into Alabama today with lower humidity levels and a good supply of sunshine. We project a high today between 77 and 80 degrees for most places.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Dry weather continues with a cooling trend; the high tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 80s, and guidance continues to trend cooler for Sunday. The GFS and the NAM models are now suggesting the high will be only in the upper 60s Sunday afternoon, almost 15 degrees below average for mid May in Alabama. And many communities will reach the upper 40s early Sunday morning.
NEXT WEEK: Monday will be dry and warmer with a high close to 80; the latter half of the week looks rather unsettled, with some risk of showers and storms daily Wednesday through Friday. We might get away with no rain on one of those days; model consistency is not good.
AT THE BEACH: Just a slight risk of a shower today on the coast from Gulf Shores over to Panama City Beach; otherwise, mostly sunny days and fair nights through early next week. Highs around 80 on the immediate coast, with mid 80s inland. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be held this year at the Greystone Golf and Country Club May 18-22. Very hard to pinpoint the days with the highest risk of showers this far in advance, but for now it looks like we will have some risk of showers Wednesday through Friday (May 18-20), followed by a drier setup for the weekend (May 21-22). Highs will be in the 80s. Get more information about the tournament here.
