APSO Works at Battleship Park in Mobile

Members of the Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) in Mobile spent a day working at the USS Alabama Battleship Park. In addition to cleaning exhibit areas on the battleship, the volunteers also dusted and cleaned military aircraft and other vehicles in the park’s aircraft pavillion. More than 30 airplanes make up the historic collection valued at about $300 million. The aircraft pavillion was nearly destroyed after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Staff members have worked for years to fully repair several of the damaged aircraft.
The Alabama Power Service Organization includes more than 4,000 Alabama Power, Southern Nuclear and Southern Company Services employees and their families. APSO is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization whose members focus their efforts on helping nonprofit groups and charitable projects that promote education, environment and community enhancement and meet critical human needs. From ten chapters across the state, APSO members typically donate more than 50,000 volunteer hours to local communities each year.
