On Wednesday, Oct. 5, archivists from around the country will take to Twitter using the hashtag #AskAnArchivist to answer your questions about any and all things archives.
The day-long event will kick off American Archives Month and was started in 2014 by the Society of American Archivists to promote public awareness of the value of archives.

American Archives Month is observed in October. (contributed)
The first #AskAnArchivist Day included over 2,000 participants and 6,000 tweets. Participating archivists were asked a variety of questions, including “what to know before visiting an archives, how to preserve family photographs or video games, what is the coolest item in a collection, and how do I store images from my phone so I can access them later?”
Archivists are employed by universities, museums, historical societies, churches, businesses, local, state, and federal governments, and other organizations. They tackle the challenge of conserving cultural heritage for the future, and welcome this opportunity to share their stories and expertise about the work they do every day to preserve fascinating documents, photographs, audio and visual materials, artifacts, and digital materials.
#AskAnArchivist is only happening this Wednesday. To participate, just tweet a question, information request or comment, using the hashtag #AskAnArchivist in your tweet. Your question will be seen by archivists from around the county, including archivists from the Alabama Department of Archives and History and the University of Montevallo-Milner Archives and Special Collections, who are standing by to respond directly to you.
