Fred L. Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award Celebration
The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute presents the Fred Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award Celebration Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Lyric Theatre. The prestigious awards celebration will honor Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, who represents the District of Columbia and is on the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit.
The awards celebration will feature performances by American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, and Henry Panion III, composer, arranger, conductor, educator and professor of music at UAB.
The Lyric Theatre is at 1800 3rd Ave. N. in Birmingham.

Explore cultural exhibits at the Mobile International Festival
Travel the world at the annual Mobile International Festival Saturday, Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Mobile Civic Center. Experience a variety of educational exhibits from Asia, the Americas, Africa, Europe and Australia. Enjoy cultural entertainment, including songs and folk dances. Taste exotic food from over 30 countries. Visit the Art Gallery and see artifacts, paintings and potteries.

Get ready to run this weekend
More than 1,700 runners are expected to participate in the fastest growing half-marathon in the South. The 6th annual Magic City Half-Marathon is Sunday, Nov. 20 at Regions Field with proceeds benefiting the Ruben Studdard Foundation for the Advancement of Children in Music Arts. The event includes music and post-race craft beer.

LeAnn Rimes in concert at Wind Creek
Grammy Award-winning vocalist LeAnn Rimes will perform at the Wind Creek Casino and Hotel in Wetumpka Saturday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. Rimes rose to fame as a country singer at age 13 after the debut of her hit song “Blue.”

Adults and children of all ages can enjoy Skating in the Park Nov. 18-Jan. 3. The skating rink is behind the Huntsville Museum of Art at 300 Church St.

Enjoy a tree-lighting celebration
The annual Alabama Shakespeare Festival tree-light celebration is set for Saturday, Nov. 19 from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. The family-friendly event features Santa, festive songs, carriage rides and a special appearance by ASF’s Christmas Carol cast members.
