Hyundai is providing a sneak peek of its first-ever pickup before the vehicle begins rolling off the assembly line at its Montgomery plant this summer.
They are the first teaser images of the 2022 Santa Cruz Sport Adventure Vehicle, which is being billed as something that will be groundbreaking in the “SUV, truck and crossover segments by offering a new category of vehicle unlike anything else in the U.S. market.”
Most people, because of its open bed, would label it a pickup truck. Hyundai, however, doesn’t use that phrase in its description.
“Santa Cruz, with its bold styling, breaks open all-new segment territory, both for Hyundai and the industry as a whole,” said Jose Munoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America. “Open-bed flexibility coupled with closed-cabin security meets the changing everyday needs of its adventure-oriented buyers, while powerful and efficient engines and superb maneuverability ensure it is a pleasure to drive in urban or off-road environments. Our customers will wonder just how they managed before owning one.”
Hyundai’s description that accompanied the release of the teaser images does say the Santa Cruz will feature “a highly maneuverable all-wheel-drive platform that is equally at home in urban and adventure-focused environments.”
Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama is set to begin producing the Santa Cruz this summer. The plant in Montgomery also produces the Sonata and Elantra sedans and the Santa Fe and Tucson SUVs.
