“I want to be a neonatal nurse practitioner. I want to be the one who is there with the newborn babies and helping them if they have any problems when they are born. I’ve always had this feeling that their life starts in that hospital room, so I feel like if they have someone there to care for them and love them and nurture them the way they should, I feel like, in a way, I would be doing them some type of justice for the future.” – Tyneisha Carter, 18, of Birmingham.
Carter is a senior at Ramsay High School and is a People of Alabama apprentice through the Birmingham Promise program.
Carter said one of the things she is curious about is what inspires people daily.

“It’s a question that really stood out to me, especially with people that go through a lot of things or with what’s been going on recently. It gets harder to try to imagine how somebody could wake up each day and say, ‘I want to do this or I want to do that,’ when they have so many things going against them. It is very interesting for me to find out if you have something that inspires you, what could it be, and how do you continue to let it inspire you,” she said.
