For years, Ike Pigott was a familiar face on televisions in Alabama as a broadcast journalist. He would leave that role to work for a nonprofit and then at Alabama Power as a communications strategist.
Before his 50th birthday, Pigott went to the doctor to have some swelling in his leg examined. It turned out to be sarcoma, a rare cancer that is even more rare in someone his age. It would lead to a path of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and rehabilitation, but also to a journey of self-reflection and realization. Pigott begins sharing his story in the first of a two-part video below. Part 2 will publish on Alabama NewsCenter Dec. 31.
