“Live for the day and don’t focus too much on the past or the future. Enjoy the moment and appreciate every single day that you get. You have to learn to kind of let go of things that have hurt you and appreciate that it was part of your life lesson. Also, don’t invest too much in the future yet. It’s smart to prepare for that, but if you waste too much present time focusing on that, then you’re wasting enjoying your current moment.” – Kerry Parks of Gulf Shores with her dog, Kila

Parks is a glass artist at the Hot Shop at the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach.

“My whole life I was into drawing and painting. I went to art school and took glassblowing, not knowing what it was, and then instantly knew that’s what I just wanted to spend all my time doing. I just got really lucky with this job right when I graduated with a BFA in glass. Next year will be 10 years here.”

Her favorite thing about Alabama is the coast.

“I’m from California originally. I’m living the dream here. I’ve kind of gotten kind of rooted here and living the good life. I love the beach. I try to get out there as much as possible.”

These are the faces and stories of people from all walks of life who call Alabama home. People of Alabama is a Red Clay Media and Alabama NewsCenter partnership.
