The kids are back in school, and footballs are about to fly through the Alabama skies – but not all is settled on the home front. Or the work front.

Changing seasons often mean changes to routines. The shifts in schedules affect all of us, whether we have children or not. The shifts in wake-up times, meals, traffic patterns and work flows can take their toll on anyone.

Dr. Joshua C. Klapow is a licensed clinical psychologist and chief behavioral scientist for ChipRewards, a health engagement technology company. He is also an associate professor of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Klapow serves as a senior clinical adviser for the MindSide, a sports and performance psychology organization. He is the author of more than 100 professional articles, abstracts and book chapters in behavioral medicine and health psychology, as well as the book “Living SMART: 5 Essential Skills to Change Your Health Habits Forever.”
