Think a moment about your favorite shrimp and grits. If you’ve lived in the South for any period of time, you’ve likely had several iterations of this dish and there are common threads that make it what you imagine shrimp and grits is supposed to be.

Now, head to Scottsboro and get the Shrimp and Grits at The Docks at Goose Pond Colony. But be prepared to have shrimp and grits unlike any of those you have had before and don’t be surprised if you start declaring this version the best you’ve ever had.

Owner and chef Mike Hall created his own take on this Southern classic. It has fresh jumbo Gulf shrimp (not uncommon) with stone ground grits from Falls Mill (special but not too out there), andouille sausage (again, not uncommon) and Hall’s own pepper cream sauce. (Wait, what? I think we’ve found the secret.)

It’s special enough to earn a spot on the Alabama Tourism Department’s list of 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama.
