The University of Alabama‘s winter commencement graduates included more than 30 student-athletes from 12 different Crimson Tide teams – including one football legend.
Marty Lyons, the first team All-American part of Alabama’s famous goal line stand against Penn State in the 1979 Sugar Bowl, was one of 16 football players earning their degree.

In addition to Lyons, earning a bachelor’s degree were current football players Jonathan Allen, Eddie Jackson, Reuben Foster, Blaine Anderson, Anthony Averett, David Cornwell, Raheem Falkins, Truett Harris, Jake Long, Cole Mazza, Brandon Moore and Joshua Palet. Alphonse Taylor, Dakota Ball and Brandon Greene earned master’s degrees.
Seven members of the track and field/cross country program received degrees, including Ahmed Ali, Andrew Harris, Josh McCullan and Kevin Shannon from the men’s squad and Meropi Panagiotou, Allison Gregg and Anna Reed from the women’s team.
Soccer graduates are Caroline Alexander, Auburn Mercer and Kaylee Semelsberger.
Other graduates include Brett Walsh from men’s swimming and diving, Janie Jackson from women’s golf, Becker O’Shaughnessy from men’s tennis, Ashley Williams from women’s basketball, Andrea Hawkins from softball, Nyia Owen from rowing, Mattie Weldy from volleyball and Leah Bird from women’s swimming and diving.
